biography

Austrian Soprano Beate Ritter studied at the University of Performing Arts and the Music Conservatory in Vienna. She gave her operatic debut in 2009 at Theater an der Wien als Yniold in C.Debussy’s Pélleas et Mélisande under the baton of Bertrand de Billy alongside Natalie Dessay.

In the 2015/16 season, Ms. Ritter can be heard at the Vienna Volksoper in Die Zauberflöte (Queen of the Night), Die Fledermaus (Adele), J. Strauss’ Eine Nacht in Venedig (Annina), E. Kálmán’s Die Csárdásfürstin (Anastasia), and Carmen (Frasquita). On the concert stage, she will be the soprano soloist for Carmina Burana and the “Musik gegen Winmühlen” concerts at the Volksoper, and was a soloist for the benefit gala “Kunst auf Rädern” at Theatre an der Wien in September 2015. Other season highlights include sing- ing in the New Years Concert with the Orchestre National de Lyon under the direction of Sasha Goetzel and a return to Oper Leipzig to sing Queen of the Night. In May 2016, she will tour with the Vienna Volk- soper to Japan, where she will sing the roles of Adele, Anastasia, and Olga (Die Lustige Witwe). In 2017 comes her debut as Zerbinetta in France.

For the 2014/15 season the young soprano made her role and house debut as Susanna in Le Nozze di Figaro in Dallas Opera and returned to the Komische Oper Berlin as Queen of the Night. She also made a house debut at Oper Leipzig as Queen of the Night (Dec 2104). In April 2015 she mades her role debut of Fiakermilli in Strauss’s Arabella in a new production with Oper Köln, another house debut. The 2013/14 season in- cluded debuts at the Komische Oper Berlin as Queen of the Night, as well as with the Deutsche Oper am Rhein.

Beate Ritter has been a member of the Vienna Volksoper since 2010, where she gained the attention of the local press and audience due to her outstanding interpretation of W.A.Mozart’s Queen of the night, Blonde and J.Strauss ‘s Adele in the Fledermaus.

In 2013 her Blonde at Angers Opera in Nantes and at the Teatro dell’Opera Roma revealed her ability to set standards with Mozart’s roles written for coloratura sopranos. In December 2013 the Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz especially requested Beate Ritters unique version of The Frühlingsstimmen Walzer written by Johann Strauss (Sohn) for their Viennese Operetta Gala Concert at the Philharmonie am Gasteig, Munich.

On the international concert platform Beate Ritter interpreted the following composers J.S.Bach’s passions and cantatas, L.v. Beethovens Missa Solemnis, G.F.Händel’s masses, W.A.Mozart’s „Exsultate jubilate“, Mass in C minor, and his famous concert arias written for high coloratura soprano. Her Lied repertoire includes the works of F.Schubert, H.Wolf, M.Reger, R.Strauss, M.Kagel and A.Reimann.

Engagements at Theater an der Wien, with J.Haydns „Philemon und Baucis“ as Narcissa and with C.Monteverdis „L’incoronazione di Poppea“ as Damigella as well as at the children opera of the Vienna State Opera marked the beginning of her career..
